મગનું પાણી (Green Gram Soup)

There is an idiom in Gujarati "મગ લાવે પગ (Mug Laa-Ve Pug)" meaning that green gram brings legs. In India, when the baby starts to roll in its own, mother starts feeding her baby green gram soup. A cup of green gram soup, couple of times a day, gives quick energy to a patient. The main advantage of green gram soup is that it is not restricted for any one. Anyone can slurp it, either he or she is a diabetic, a heart patient or a pregnant women. Now, let's not waste time and make it in the kitchen. Below is recipe:

  1. Soak 4 table spoon of green gram overnight
  2. boil in a cooker (for 2-3 whistles)
  3. blend it, add some more water and boil it on flame again for 5-7 minutes without the lid on cooker
  4. add pinch of turmeric powder, salt to test, a table spoon of sugar, 8-10 drops lemon juice
  5. temper with half tea spoon of ghee, 8-10 cumin seeds, a pinch of asafoetida (હીંગ)
  6. garnish with coriander leaves
